What is Bits and a Pint?

Bits and a Pint was born when a recent friend said I should think about creating a blog to share my thoughts.  After reviewing several development related blogs from respected peers and having created a fun blog for my brewing hobby, I decided I would start a development related blog.  It is here that I will be sharing my personal thoughts, tutorials, comments, explorations, etc... filtered by a tasty beverage.  It is my wish that you'll read, enjoy and comment on my ramblings over a tasty beverage as well.

A bit about me...

I like to think of myself as a specialist at solving problems anywhere within the space of software engineering.  From creating architectural solutions to resolving that hard to fix production bug to improving SDLC.

I graduated from UC Berkeley where I studied how technology affects society while keeping up my development chops by taking the core CS classes, upper level Artificial Intelligence courses and honing those skills at internships with Lynx Therapeutics and Sybase Inc.  After I got out of school I began my career as a front end developer working on the GUI for a touch pad based trading system utilizing Visual C++.  After that I moved into Java development building data integration systems and web applications in the financial wealth management space.  I quickly proved myself as both a developer and leader taking on multiple roles as a Tech Lead, Lead Java Support Engineer and Manager for Release Management.  Then I moved on to focus on my architect skills taking a role as a Solution Architect for a company building an E-commerce platform.  It was at this company where I found I had a good knack at executing/running performance engineering as well as finding solutions to the tough problems as the Manager for both Performance and Sustaining Engineering.  Today I'm a hands-on technical manager focused on establishing a performance culture and providing performance engineering solutions at StubHub as the Performance Engineering Manager.

When I'm not working you can usually find me doing one of the following:
  • Having fun with my family
  • Hanging out with my neighbors
  • Catching up on tech news
